The June Resilient Roots Report
Hey Herbies!
I am excited to be able to share that I am feeling better (enough) to host workshops on our farm! I’ve been wanting to do a workshop on the solstice for a while, so the first workshop is going to be on Saturday, June 21st. Its going to focus on “hormone and menstrual health” which is the area that I have specialized in for the last 8 years or so. This first class is designed as an overview, and subsequent classes will dig into specific issues in more detail. Please keep reading to learn more!

It has been interesting to see how the plants have responded to our overly wet weather, an early “last frost date,” hailstorms, and severe wind. It can also make workshop planning a challenge, because I can’t look to last year’s calendar for bloom times. For example, we could traditionally count on St. John’s Wort to flower around the solstice, but because we saw our last frost here sometime in March (?), the St. John’s Wort it is blooming NOW. Weird! Elder and meadowsweet are in full flower, but the calendula has barely started. The basil leaves are shredded from hail and don’t love the water and coolder temps. Some of the mint-family plants like oregano are so water logged they have turned yellow. The chamomile and clary sage melted in the rain. But I think the bee balm is going to have an amazing year!
The garden is a continuous science and patience experiment, and Kentucky has become ground zero for the climate crisis. We must continue to build community, and coming to one of my workshops is a great way to meet likeminded folks and foster resilience!
Thanks for reading and take care,
Lauren
